The UPSC Civil Services Exam selection process consists of the following 3 stages. The stages are
- Preliminary Examination
- Main Examination
- Interview/Personality Test
Preliminary Examination:
This is the initial screening stage with objective-type questions, filtering candidates for the Mains exam.
Main Examination:
A descriptive written exam where candidates who cleared Prelims need to write detailed answers across various subjects.
Interview/Personality Test
The final stage where candidates are assessed on their personality, suitability for Civil Services Exam, and ability to handle pressure
