Counties of Texas : How many Counties are in Texas?

        Texas is in the South Central part of the United States of America. The state covers an area of 268,596 square miles ( 695,660 sq. km) of which 261,232 square miles is the land area and 7,365 square miles is the water area. This vast covering area makes it the second largest state in the total of 50 states of the U.S.A. It is also the Second largest (after California) due to its population density of more than 30 million residents living in Texas, U.S. state. The state’s capital is Austin, and Houston is the largest city, and the most populous city in Texas as well as the fourth largest city in the U.S.

      Texas is bordered by Louisiana to the east, Oklahoma to the North, Arkansas to the Northeast, New Mexico to the west, and Tamaulipas to the south and southwest. The state has a coastline to the Southeast with the Gulf of Mexico. Texas is divided into 254 counties, Texas has the most counties in the U.S. states. Each county has its unique topography & historical significance. Each county varies in size and population, with some of them most populous including Harris County, Dallas County, Tarrant County, Travis County, and Bexar County.  The subdivisions are done to provide Essential services and maintain law & order with elected officials.

      The U.S. state of Texas has a fascinating history, it joined the union as the 28th state on December 29, 1845. Northern Mockingbird is the state bird and the Bluebonnet is the state flower.          Dallas County is situated in the Northeastern part of the U.S. state of Texas, covering an area of 908.54 square miles ( 2,353.1 sq. km) with a population of 2,613,539 making it the second most populous county in the State of Texas, U.S. Dallas is the largest city and the county seat, which is the most populous city in Texas. Various sectors including defense, information technology, financial services, transportation, and telecommunications support the county’s local economy.

Travis County:

             Travis County is located in the south-central segment of the U.S. state of Texas. The county covers an area of 1,023 square miles (2,650 sq. km) with a population of 1,290,188 making it the fifth most populous county in Texas, U.S. Austin is the county seat and the most populous city, which is the state’s capital. The county is known for its vibrant culture & various landmarks such as The state’s capitol, Zilker Park, and the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum; and it is home to various higher education institutions including the University of Texas located in Austin.
